Windwärts Energie GmbH is an internationally active company in the sustainable energy sector with subsidiaries in France, Italy and Greece. The company’s core business is the development and financing as well as the construction and operation of wind energy and photovoltaics projects in the megawatt class. Windwärts Energie acquires projects in various planning stages, offers financial participation in its energy projects as an issuing company for sustainable investments and plans and constructs turnkey photovoltaic and wind energy systems as a general contractor.

The aims of the company are clearly directed towards achieving a sustainable energy supply. The company follows an integrated sustainability strategy, the main themes of which are ecological procurement, increasing energy efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions. Taking responsibility for sustainable perspectives in the relationship between work and society is a basic principle of Windwärts. Since 2005, the company has been certified by the "Career and Family" audit.

By the middle of 2012, Windwärts Energie had realized 139 wind turbines, 31 photovoltaic systems and one bioenergy plant with investments totalling 400 million euros. With a combined capacity of 266 megawatts these plants produce more than 534 million kwh of environmentally friendly electricity annually. This is equivalent to the electricity needs of around 155,000 two-person households. Each year, these projects prevent the emission of half a million tonnes of carbon dioxide and other pollutants that would otherwise be produced by conventional power plants.

For projects that are ready for construction, Windwärts Energie works together with credit institutions and tax consultants to develop a financing concept individually tailored to suit the subsequent owner. The financing is achieved by way of closed-end funds for capital investors as well as private placements by institutional or private investors.

WIND ENERGY:
Windwärts Energie develops onshore wind energy projects with megawatt-class wind turbines both in Germany and other European countries. The sites acquired are generally on agricultural land. They are either allocated for wind energy use within the context of rural or urban land use planning, or their suitability is individually assessed by the relevant authorizing body. After the construction permit has been issued, Windwärts Energie is responsible for the turnkey construction of the wind turbines.

PHOTOVOLTAICS:
Windwärts Energie develops and implements projects involving megawatt-capacity photovoltaic systems – both on large roof surfaces and as ground-mounted systems in Germany, France and Italy. The sites must have high solar irradiation values, not be subject to shade and provide the possibility of a grid connection. The company also offers service and maintenance for the installations.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND REALIZATION:
Project development at Windwärts Energie includes the selection of a suitable location, the feasibility study and the securing of contracts. This is followed by the estimation of environmental impact, detailed technical planning and the initiation of the necessary approval procedures. Windwärts Energie plans the realization of the project, building supervision and turnkey construction as well as the initial operation of the installations. The company also acquires the rights to partly developed projects in all stages of planning and continues their development right up to their realization. As a general contractor the company constructs turnkey wind energy and photovoltaic systems.

PROJECT FINANCING:
For projects that are ready for construction, Windwärts Energie works together with credit institutions and tax consultants to develop a financing concept individually tailored to suit the subsequent owner, and arranges the acquisition of equity capital and borrowed capital. If a closed-end fund is to become the owner of a project, Windwärts Energie designs the issue prospectus, establishes placement guarantees and arranges the acquisition of equity capital in the form of fund units.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT:
