RWE Innogy and Troisdorf municipal utility plan joint biomass-fired cogeneration plant - Joint project company founded
Essen, Germany - RWE Innogy plans to build a biomass-fired cogeneration plant together with the municipal utility of Troisdorf. The plant is to supply steam and heat to the industrial municipal park of Troisdorf (IndustrieStadtpark Troisdorf).
The next step is to invite tenders for the planning and design of the plant. In parallel, the licensing procedure will be initiated. Construction is scheduled to start in the second half of 2009. The cogeneration plant is planned to have an electrical output of 7.5 megawatts and a thermal output of 18 megawatts. The electricity produced will be fed into the grid.
Under the umbrella of RWE Innogy, RWE Innogy Cogen GmbH is responsible for the generation of electricity and heat from biogenic solid fuels. In Germany, the company operates wood-fired biomass plants in Kehl, Berlin, Bergkamen and Baienfurt. Another two biomass-fired cogeneration plants are presently being built and planned at Siegen-Wittgenstein and Troisdorf, respectively. In Europe, RWE Innogy Cogen mainly operates in the UK, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain.
